The Story Behind Field Trip Fridays
This website has been 6 years in the making and I can’t believe it’s finally come to life. I started the Field Trip Fridays Instagram account as a way to share my weekly outings with my then-four-year-old son. His school only met Monday-Thursdays and I was not about to sit at home and let life go by just because he was small.
We took advantage of everything the city of Austin, TX had to offer. We visited museums, parks, and playgrounds. We saw animals, we listened to local music, we read books, we created and we explored.
We took a field trip every single Friday for an entire year and then kept going. His siblings went through the same program, which means I have spent nearly every Friday for the last 6 years adventuring.
It has been amazing and we’ve created some of the best lifelong memories as a family.
When the pandemic hit we took even more field trips.
We road-tripped, we camped, and we explored all of Texas.
We saw a lot of America too.
As a family, we looked at it as an opportunity to do more together, instead of doing less. We had each other and our field trips and that’s all that mattered.
It’s crazy to think that now, after three kids graduated from that very same preschool program, now is when this website and the record of our journey will begin. Now I finally have time to focus!
I hope that somewhere within these pages you find inspiration for your own family journey. Each week messages trickle into my inbox thanking me for sharing our trips and activities. That is why I’m starting this site, to help parents see that just because you have kids doesn’t mean you can’t experience what the world has to offer.
So, if you’re reading this, my message to you is: GO!
Explore more.
Do good.
Adventure together.
Live on your own terms and take the kids with you for the ride. You won’t regret it.
